We've hit mid-week in my wrap/surplice top miniseries! Aaaand I'm supposed to sew up another surplice top for Friday but it hasn't happened yet, so we'll see about that. ;) But today's post is the first of two pattern modifications that I've worked out for the Butterick B6285 wrap top pattern. Pretty much everyone I've chatted with on Instagram or in comments on my blog who has also sewn up this top has had the same ... Read more »
Surplice tops for every day of the week
In yesterday's post, you saw my wrap tops sewn from Butterick B6285, and continuing in my miniseries, now you'll get to see my surplice tops! I'm really excited about these, if you haven't figured that out yet! And no joking on the post title, I could totally have one of these for every day of the week. And it's fully my intention to sew up an army of them. Let the rainbow of surplice tops commence! (See the stealth cat ... Read more »

Next week: wrap/surplice top week of love (projects & mods of Butterick B6285)
Hello, friends! On Monday, February 1st, I'm going to kick off a little sewing miniseries on my blog! I came up with the idea out of the blue, because I have a sewing pattern I've been totally obsessing over for the last month and a half (if you follow me on Instagram, you may have noticed!). I've sewn up 4 different versions (hopefully a 5th by the end of next week) and worked out two big pattern hacks/modifications, ... Read more »
Not forgotten: Cath Kidston inspired cardigan
A year and a half ago, I started and completed a cardigan. I never took photos, which is really unlike me with sweaters. It wasn't because I wasn't pleased with it, or didn't wear it, as I was and did (and do). I just never got around to it—until today! This is a total copycat cardigan. Case in point: Guess which one is mine... yeah okay, perhaps the Cath Kidston label and machine-knit stitch size gives it ... Read more »
Roses and Vianne
Happy New Year! No sharing of resolutions or reflections here, just marching on with a new year! I think sometimes I enjoy the process of organizing my thoughts in writing more than the commitment, so this year, none of that. I have plenty of ideas of course, but I think for now I'll just continue to let them steep in my head. So I'll just chat about them if and when they come up, how about that? ;) Let's start off ... A very flannel snow globe dress for Christmas day
Merry Christmas, my friends!! It's been a busy several days and I apologize that I've been remiss in replying to comments on my last couple of posts, I promise I'll get a chance to do that soon now that the holidays are cooling down! :) I'm having a lovely Christmas day at home, following a Christmas Eve celebrated with good friends and lots of good cheer. When we were in Portland in August, I fell in absolute love ... Read more »
Novelty felt Christmas skirt
Merry Christmas from... my skirt! When Technicolor Cutie announced early in December she was going to do a Christmas novelty felt circle skirt sew along, I knew I was IN. It was just the excuse I needed to be ridiculous during the holidays, and I love to be ridiculous during the holidays. I think she ended up getting delayed with the sew along but I plowed on full steam ahead because I just couldn't stop myself ... Read more »
Nancy Drew and the Clue in the Wrap Dress
Actually, this post title should be Nancy Drew and the Clue in the Wrap Dress and Cardigan, but that's a bit of a mouthful, don't you think? ;) This post is brought to you by a dress I finished 8 months ago and a cardigan I finished at least a month ago, to put together an outfit over a year in the making! (By the way, I'm still super loving my new haircut! Lots of outfit photos with it have made it to Instagram even ... Read more »
New haircut for a ginger Marilyn-inspired look
Well, I did it! After talking about it on my blog last week, I got my hair cut over the weekend! I was going for a much shorter 'do, and showed my stylist a lot of photos (including some that I'd included in my last post). She's familiar with vintage hairstyles so I knew she'd have her own ideas for what to do with my hair. What I ended up with is not exactly the quintessential middy cut, but similar. I think my bangs ... Read more »
Dare or don’t: going for shorter vintage hair
Hello, my friends! It's been some time since I've met up with you here! When I last posted, we were in preparations for our vacation to Wales and Paris (and a milisecond in London, which was a milisecond very well spent!). All of those adventures include fun stories and tales to share... but with the turn of events in the world, you can understand why sharing delightful memories of our vacation (especially ones that ... Wings of madness: the blouse I never wanted to sew again (but now I do)
Earlier in the week, I was waxing on about my Ultimate Pencil Skirt and how happy I was with it. Now, let's have a slightly less gushy sewing post, shall we? The blouse I wore with that skirt was one I sewed from a vintage pattern. (Woo! It's a bonus Vintage Pledge item since I already had reached my challenge of 5... actually I think there was a 6th floating around somewhere that I can't put my finger on.) It's ... Read more »
The well and truly Ultimate Pencil Skirt
I've had so many interesting comments on my post about focusing on building a cool and cold weather wardrobe over the next year! A lot has happened in the last couple of weeks that's really helped me feel good about my plans, although part of me suspects that I'm so excited about it, it won't actually take an entire year to build a 3 season wardrobe. So even if it ends up that in 6 months time I feel awesome about what I ... Read more »
3 season wardrobe challenge: it’s the future, I have no wool clothes, and I’m going to prepare for cold weather for a year
Hello friends! Bear with me on today's rambling post, would you? I promise I do (kind of) have a point in here somewhere. I'm a big list maker and organizer. Especially when it comes to my wardrobe, and sewing and knitting projects. I start off with a big list each season with sections like "sew", "knit", "buy" with ideas, pattern names, types of fabric I might like, things I've seen that are inspiring me, things I ... One last summer sewing hoorah: Chinese lanterns sarong dress
As of today, summer has technically come and gone! My thoughts are straight into fall. And I missed the opportunity earlier this summer to show off some things I made, most of which I'll probably be tucking away soon! (But hey, on the bright side now that it's fall, maybe I'll actually post the cardigan I made this time last year and never blogged, ha!) So today, you'll have to make do with seeing one of them a bit too ... Read more »
My new trick to transforming naturally dark eyebrows to match dyed red hair
Here's a relatively unusual post from me today! I have a makeup tip. It's something I found so profoundly changed my perception of an area on my face that was bugging me, that I had to share. So today's post is an ode to MAC Browset! Not a sponsored review or anything, just a girl who fell in love with a new product she bought. ;) This is for those faux redheads out there who, like me, have naturally dark and ... Read more »
