Wondrella cardigan – new knitting pattern!

January 11, 2023 by Tasha 1 Comment

My Wondrella cardigan pattern is finally here! Meet the fun and flirty vintage-inspired batwing-sleeve cardigan of your dreams. Get it on Ravelry and Payhip.

Stay tuned for a special announcement at the end… 😉

Wondrella is the ideal vintage-inspired sweater to dress up an outfit! It features a luscious texture from the fuzzy lace weight yarn that’s carried along with a fingering weight, to give you a sumptuous fabric with a beautiful halo. But if mohair or alpaca aren’t your thing, you can knit this in your favorite DK weight.

The modified drop-shoulder body (just like Legendaire) is seamlessly knit bottom up, and the dramatic 1950s-inspired batwing sleeves are knit down from the armhole, with no sleeve cap shaping. The peek-a-boo slit neckline (which is easy to modify higher or lower!) is trimmed with an icord bow and topped off with either a simple plain neckband, or a small collar that can be popped up for a perfectly 50s stand up collar.

I just adore both views!

And like most of my patterns, there’s lots of customization options, design ideas, and tips included… like sewing shut the button bands, omitting or changing waist shaping, collar options, and more.

The pink version is Hedgehog Fibers Alpaca Boucle laceweight and Sporty Single fingering weight in Melon, and the black version is KnitPicks Palette and Aloft.

Just look at that popped collar!

Wondrella is size inclusive, in 11 sizes from 30.25–62.25” / 77–158cm finished bust, designed to be 1 – 3” /  2.5 – 7.5cm smaller than your full bust.

Check out the project pages on Ravelry to see more examples from my test knitters! Including one of my favorite customizations suggested in the pattern, changing to a dagger collar!
