Thanks everyone so much for all the kind comments on our wedding! I admit, I'm still catching up with life. I promise I'll have wedding photos to show soon, but I'm waiting until we get our photos back and then I'll share all of our stories as well. In the meantime, how about I work backwards and show you our honeymoon photos? The wedding was Friday, the party was Saturday and we spent Sunday and Monday nights on a mini ... Read more »
We’re hitched
I'll have more to share once I steal more photos from my mom, we get our photos back from our photographer, and I download the honeymoon photos. But for now: everything was great! ... Read more »
Saturday’s errand outfit
This was the last weekend before the wedding, and it was full of errands and unexpectedly getting a dead car battery replaced. One of the errands took us to Wisconsin, where we stopped for lunch at the new Mars Cheese Castle. So all I have time for this week is just a quick outfit post!I'm wearing a sundress I purchased at VLV this spring, a beige beaded cardigan (because it was actually quite chilly) from Etsy, carrying ... Weddingish things
Less than two weeks until the wedding! So I thought it was high time I share some details with you.I'm feeling good about everything. Not too stressed. Just enough relaxed. Most things on the "to do" list are minor at this point, with the exception of a couple of small projects involving embroidery. The only things I'm annoyed about are the huge zit on my chin, the cut I just gave myself on one of the knuckles on my left ... Memorial Day camping trip
How is it already almost the weekend? I've been confused about the day of the week all week, because of the holiday on Monday. I finally had some time to pull together photos from our camping trip to Wisconsin last weekend. We woke up bright and early Saturday morning for the drive up to Wisconsin. And by bright and early, I do mean bright and early. We were on the road by 6 a.m. I never used to think I would ever become a ... Read more »
Briar Rose Vintage KAL: Finished sweater round-up!
Well everyone, we've reached the official end of the Briar Rose Vintage Knit-along! It's been a wonderful experience leading you all through it. I learned some things about my own knitting and my knitting processes along the way. I hope I've helped you gain confidence in your own knitting skills and your ability to resize a sweater pattern, and hope you'll want to seek out more vintage knitting patterns in the ... Read more »
A busy bee
I have been so, so busy lately. I have not even had time to think about writing a proper post other than for the knit-along, and I am so behind in my feed reader! So in no particular order, I'm going to do a short list of things that have been on my mind lately.1. Okay, I admit this one is in the correct order. First and foremost on my mind has been wedding preparations. June 17th fast approaches, and even though we're ... Read more »
Briar Rose Vintage KAL: Seaming
Hey knit-alongers! We've reached the last instructional post! My last topic before the official end date tomorrow is about seaming. Call it seaming, call it sewing up, call it a pain in the butt. Unless you're knitting a completely seamless sweater, you're going to have to face this step. Once you've blocked your Briar Rose pieces, you'll have a nice little pile of flat pieces of knitting that look an awful lot ... Read more »
Briar Rose Vintage KAL: Blocking your sweater
Hi everyone! Can you believe we're almost officially done with the knit-along?? It was so interesting reading everyone's thoughts about A Stitch in Time Vol. 2 and your next knitting projects. And I know there are several of you out there who aren't knitters yet but I can tell you're leaning in that direction... c'mon! You know you want to learn! :) Today is my second-to-last instructional post for the knit-along. I ... Read more »
A Stitch in Time Vol. 2
I'm not sure why I waited so long (oh yes, I kept forgetting!) but I finally pre-ordered A Stitch in Time, Volume 2. I am so excited for this book! Susan Crawford (who blogs at Just Call Me Ruby) and Jane Crawford also put out A Stitch in Time, Volume 1, which includes dozens of vintage knitting patterns, re-worked slightly for different sizes (since we know most vintage knitting patterns only come in one size) and ... Our wedding invitations
I'm so excited to share this post with you!Mel and I have been furiously making plans for our wedding and the first family party that we'll be having. When I announced our engagement, I mentioned we would probably end up doing a very small ceremony, with the bigger events being family parties in each location where we have a lot of family, and that's exactly what we're going to do. We're trying to keep everything as ... Read more »
Briar Rose Vintage KAL: A few more tips
I've been following our Flickr group discussions carefully, and there are 3 topics I thought would be important for me to touch on here for everyone to read. Working decreases on purl rows I may have touched on this elsewhere, but I wanted to mention it here too. In the pattern as written, it tells you to start off the armhole decreases as follows: k2tog each end of the next 4 rows Either this is an editing mistake, ... Read more »
Non-camping weekend activities
This weekend we were supposed to go camping in Wisconsin with our friends, but the weather had other plans. Now, we are not lightweights. We've camped in the rain. We've camped in the cold. We've camped in a bazillion percent humidity, with mosquitoes biting everything that wasn't covered with a layer of bug spray. We can make almost anything work. So before our trip, we stalked the weather forecasts. It was looking ... Read more »
Briar Rose Vintage KAL: Two ways to knit the collar
Of course while Blogger was having problems was exactly when I wanted to post my next knit-along post! Anyway, we’ve reached the collar. There are two ways to approach it, and it’s up to you which method you choose. Knitting the collar 1) You can knit the collar as written (or with slight size modifications for those of you who resized your pattern) and sew it to the neckline. 2) You can pick up stitches along the ... Briar Rose Vintage KAL: Shoulder shaping
(Update: This post was eaten during the Blogger outage. I waited patiently starting yesterday morning when they said "Blogger was back" and said they were restoring the posts that were "temporarily removed" from Wednesday and Thursday. 24 hours later my post isn't back and as of this morning they say "almost all" posts have been restored and now they're working on comments. Gee, thanks! Fortunately my mom had a copy of ... Read more »
My grandma
Hi everyone, I have returned from my trip to New Mexico. On Thursday evening I found out that one day before my flight to see her, my grandmother passed away. She had family surrounding her in her last days. She died peacefully in her sleep at the age of 96.As I'm sure you can guess, I was sad, frustrated and disappointed that I didn't make it in time to say goodbye. But as my mom told me on the phone when I called to ... Read more »
