We're off tomorrow on a weekend trip to visit my brother- and sister-in-law, niece and nephew in St. Louis. I've been so busy this week and haven't even thought about packing yet. Eek!Before that, though, I wanted to share my official sneak peek of the first project for the Colorwork: 101 series for my new Vintage Knitting College! I promised to let you know ahead of time, in case anyone wanted to follow along with the ... Read more »
Shoes and plaids
Hi everyone! Thank you all so, so much for your compliments on my beret and gloves set! I'm so glad you liked them. They really were fun... okay, except the fingers on the gloves, but you already knew that. ;)This week is busy, busy, busy with projects, and I fear I don't have much time to write! So I thought I'd just share a few photos from the weekend. We inadvertently went out on Saturday both wearing plaid. My plaid ... Read more »
Fair isle beret & lace gloves for Fall
Fall! 'Tis the season for knitters everywhere to enjoy their woolies!I was determined to get a bit of accessory knitting in early for Fall, and diligently started back in August when I first got bitten by the Fall bug. My initial plans were for a matching fair isle beret and fingerless gloves from the book Vintage Knits by Sarah Dallas, as well as a pair of gloves from this free vintage pattern and a beret in the same ... Sewing and tucks
Hi everyone! This has continued to be one of those weeks where I struggle with my craft projects. Don't you just hate weeks like that? I went from not really having time to sew for over a month to trying to work on two projects this week and getting foiled along the way on both of them. This time, though, I'm not really foiled, just looking for opinions! I'm going to sew Simplicity 4608, a smart little blouse pattern from ... Read more »

Introducing…Vintage Knitting College
Happy Friday! Thanks for all the positive comments about my sponge roller set tutorial! I'm so happy to know some of my tips may help someone else out there. :)Today I just have a brief post to unveil an exciting and big new project for my blog: the Vintage Knitting College!I was chewing on the idea for the Land Girl sweater knit-along after I proposed it ever a couple of weeks ago. There was some interest, but not as a ... Read more »
How I do a late 30s/early 40s sponge roller set (and avoid dents!)
I'm here today to talk about hair! Now that I've settled into a routine with my haircut at shoulder-length, I thought I'd show you one way I set my hair for a late 1930s/early 1940s look. It's just a nice hairstyle that I think is easy to wear and easy to style. No fuss, no frills. I know over the years I've learned a ton from vintage hair tutorials online, so hopefully this will help someone out there and I can pay it ... Read more »
The Vintage Bazaar
Yesterday was the Vintage Bazaar in Logan Square. It's what they call a pop-up flea market and has been held in different locations. It's an event that I somehow didn't know about until May, and we were unable to attend the last one. So this was our first time.It was held in and outside an old historic theater, the Congress Theater. Sadly I have no photos from the event except one! It was a drizzly, humid, dreary day and ... New Mexico vacation – Part 2
Time for part 2 of vacation photos! I'm so glad you guys enjoyed the first batch. Thank you for all the nice comments! I think New Mexico is one of those under-appreciated states... although it's kind of nice that way. :)These start with the second and longer part of our trip, in and around Taos. On our way there, we stopped for another scenic view and you can see our furry friend who was on the trip, too, our dog Pia.We ... Read more »
New Mexico vacation – Part 1
I finally got a chance to upload my vacation pictures and since there are so many of them, I decided to split them up into two posts for the two parts of our trip! What did I wear on vacation, you may be wondering? I went for very casual and easy on this vacation since I knew we'd be spending a lot of time in the mountains hiking and staying in a cabin, and didn't feel like much in the way of high-maintenance routines or ... Possible Land Girl knit-along?
Hi everyone, I'm back from vacation! I love when you have a good trip but are gone long enough that it also feels really nice to be back home! As the weather shifts more towards Fall (not that you'd know it by our ... Read more »
Vacation

These are all from Inis Mór, the largest of the Aran Island, where we had a wonderful day trip. And the best ending to a cool, rainy day. Locally caught fish and chips! So this time last year we were enjoying the cool, damp ... Read more »

Trying a slightly different vintage hairstyle
I've been so busy! We've been running around and trying to accomplish pre-vacation things, because on Thursday we're leaving for one of our favorite places, New Mexico. We'll spend a few days with my family and then head to a cabin in the mountains near Taos. Point being I haven't had time to write up any blog posts! So I thought I'd just post a couple of photos of when I tried something a bit different with my hair. ... Read more »
Finished project: scalloped collar Pendrell blouse
This weekend I finished up a sewing project, and I'm so excited to reveal it! I started my scalloped collar Pendrell blouse back in early July and got it about 80% complete, then life got in the way and I didn't pick it back up until this weekend when I finished it up lickety split. I was tired of it taunting me from my dress form every time I walked past it! I'm kind of over the moon about this blouse! First of ... Read more »
