Joan C.’s flannel skirt

January 26, 2015 by Tasha 38 Comments

I've been sewing slowly so far in 2015. Thinking about my two coat projects, taking my time, and just knitting more, I guess. But I finally finished up a skirt I've had mostly done except for the hem for nearly 2 weeks! This is my first pattern for Marie and Kerry's Vintage Pledge. I pledged to sew from 5 vintage patterns this year, which should theoretically be easily do-able! This is McCall's 3853 from 1956, a nice ... Read more »

Tropical Breeze dress

May 21, 2014 by Tasha 42 Comments

For my first sewing project once home from Ireland, I was in the mood to do a dress with a slightly different bodice. Something kind of easy breezy, loose-fitting for summer. So I whipped this up, and named it the Tropical Breeze dress. And I think it fits the bill! The construction of this dress is basically a dirndl skirt and an inset waistband (like my Cliffs of Insanity dress), with a loose-fitting bodice that was ... Read more »

Afternoon Blouse: Jennifer Lauren Vintage pattern testing

April 7, 2014 by Tasha 31 Comments

You may have heard last week that Jennifer Lauren Vintage released her first sewing pattern! It's a darling basic blouse with a vintage appeal, and is quick to sew together, hence the name 'afternoon' blouse. Now, why do I know this? Because I was one of her lucky pattern testers! The blouse really is a nice and easy make, and that was one of Jen's goals. It was based on an original 1950s blouse pattern but she ... Read more »

40s jacket progress: the muslin

March 1, 2013 by Tasha 22 Comments

Well everyone, I am now fully ensconced in my Sew for Victory jacket project! For my project posts going forward, I'll add a little sidebar that links back to every post I tag with "sew for victory". I hope it may help someone in the future watching me take on the challenge of outerwear for the first time. Plus, I know at least two of you have this same pattern but haven't sewn it yet either! ;) I'm going to try and ... Read more »

Finished: inspired by Debi 1942 McCall blouse

January 24, 2013 by Tasha 46 Comments

I really owe Debi from My happy sewing place a big thank you for the inspiration for this blouse! If you follow Debi's blog you'll already know she's embarked on a huge long-term project called the 1940 McCall project where she intends to make all the McCall patterns from 1940. What an exciting commitment! I've been very inspired by her posts about the early stages of the project so far and it led led me to think about ... Read more »
