Fit & knit a 40s pullover series: deciding to change gauge & yarn weight

October 14, 2013 by Tasha 15 Comments

Hello everyone! This is the first meaty installment of my fitting and knitting a 40s pullover series. On Sunday I posted the pattern I'm knitting, Cable Pullover No. 3298, so make sure to download it if you'd like the pattern, too! Sorry in advance that many of these posts will be a little boring looking since much of what I'll be talking about is looking at sections of the pattern. Can't all be pretty. ;) Let's get ... Free vintage knitting pattern: Cable Pullover No. 3298 (1947)

October 13, 2013 by Tasha 11 Comments

Hi everyone! To get you started in the fitting a 40s pullover series, today I'm sharing the pattern I'll be knitting, Cable Pullover No. 3298, from 1947. This way if you'd like, you can follow along with the pattern, now or in the future! It's written for three (vintage) sizes: 14, 16 and 18. Final measurements at the bust are 34", 36" and 38". The pattern uses sport weight yarn at a gauge of 19 stitches over 3 ... Read more »

Follow along as I fit and modernize a 1940s pullover pattern

October 10, 2013 by Tasha 28 Comments

Thanks for all the lovely comments on my Hedy Tyrolean Cardigan! When I sat down to plan out my next knitting project, I had a brainstorm and I'm rather excited about it! I hope some of you will be, too. I'll be knitting myself a pullover from a 1947 knitting booklet, Fleisher's Campus Classics. And I've decided to document the process here on my blog! As those of you who have been following me a long time know, ... Read more »

Briar Rose Vintage KAL: Finished sweater round-up!

June 2, 2011 by Tasha 8 Comments

Well everyone, we've reached the official end of the Briar Rose Vintage Knit-along! It's been a wonderful experience leading you all through it. I learned some things about my own knitting and my knitting processes along the way. I hope I've helped you gain confidence in your own knitting skills and your ability to resize a sweater pattern, and hope you'll want to seek out more vintage knitting patterns in the ... Briar Rose Vintage KAL: Seaming

June 1, 2011 by Tasha 2 Comments

Hey knit-alongers! We've reached the last instructional post! My last topic before the official end date tomorrow is about seaming. Call it seaming, call it sewing up, call it a pain in the butt. Unless you're knitting a completely seamless sweater, you're going to have to face this step. Once you've blocked your Briar Rose pieces, you'll have a nice little pile of flat pieces of knitting that look an awful lot ... Read more »

Briar Rose Vintage KAL: Blocking your sweater

May 26, 2011 by Tasha 3 Comments

Hi everyone! Can you believe we're almost officially done with the knit-along?? It was so interesting reading everyone's thoughts about A Stitch in Time Vol. 2 and your next knitting projects. And I know there are several of you out there who aren't knitters yet but I can tell you're leaning in that direction... c'mon! You know you want to learn! :) Today is my second-to-last instructional post for the knit-along. I ... Read more »
