It’s my birthday, and as I’ve done for the last decade, I sewed myself a birthday dress to mark the occasion! I haven’t been that great about keeping up with them all on my blog, but several have made it here, including my very first one, the one I made for my 40th birthday in London, and the one I made for Viva Las Vegas.
They’re almost always made from vintage sewing patterns, and this year’s birthday dress was no exception. I used Advance 7131 (which I’ve sewed twice before), a pattern from the mid-50s, along with a gorgeous vintage fabric.

This dress pattern features an interesting construction, with a little modification from me to switch armhole facings to bias tape. The neckband forms the shoulder straps, too. Plus of course I made a matching belt. Stay tuned on that front too, because next week will be a long-awaited video tutorial on how I make my matching belts for my dresses.
