I think I say this a lot, but I feel like I don’t do enough outfits posts around here that aren’t just me-made reveals. What do think–would you like to see more? (Admittedly some might just be seeing me-made items accessorized in different manners.)
Well whether you would or would not, you get one today! On Friday evening, we went out to dinner with my inlaws. I went casual in a striped knit tee from Pinup Girl Clothing, Freddies of Pinewoods jeans, and Remix wedges. A mix of American and UK repro head to toe!
In case you haven’t noticed, the way I like to accessorize often focuses on one or two key colors, which is something I picked up from years of loving and studying vintage style. Don’t get me wrong, I adore a good pop of a statement color (like later in the weekend when I wore the same shirt with turquoise heels), but my outfits usually have a somewhat narrow focus of color.
This day, I zeroed in on red and brown, although I peppered in black with my Luxulite necklace and a so-dark-green-it’s-almost-black Bakelite bangle, and a slightly lighter dark green one to match my evergreen nails. I also carried a dark green leather purse which sadly I forgot to include!
It was a particularly windy evening, which I swear always happens when it’s time to take photos. I must admit, however, that even though it messed up my hair, the result wasn’t nearly as bad as when my hair is long.
I can’t tell you how thrilled I am to be able to set my hair again. I had no idea it was a routine I’d really miss… but I did! And my go-to fast setting pattern is now proving equally as useful with short hair, with only a couple of minor tweaks to my routine.
I’ve been so thrilled at the return of warmer weather that I’ve been living in dresses lately, but I threw this on for a change. If you knew me before I ever wore vintage styles regularly you’d recall I was very much a jeans and cute t-shirt kind of gal. This is just my vintage version!
It’s equally at home for a casual dinner out (like Friday, with wedges and fun accessories) as it would be camping or working in the garden (with Keds and a head scarf, undoubtedly how you’ll see this look again later this summer).
And until I donned this outfit, I’d temporarily forgotten how much I absolutely love stripes. Now if only I had polka dot tees! Swoon. Maybe I should get over my reluctance to sew with knits. Eh, we’ll see.

Perfection–I love all your outfit posts. I’d been wondering where that shirt came from as I noticed it in an instagram photo from a few weeks ago.
Collette Patterns just came out with a knits book, if you are interested in taking the plunge. Knits scare me too, but I’ve learned a lot from Sarai in terms of sewing with wovens, so I’m sure the knits book will be fabulous!
Ooh, may have been another shirt as I hadn’t pulled this one out yet! I bought it over winter when it there was a sale but it was still too chilly to wear it. LOL!
Yeah, I’m tempted by the knits book but something about sewing with knits just feel very appealing. I haven’t quite put my finger on it yet! Maybe it’s because the only knits I wear are t-shirts, and that just doesn’t feel very exciting to sew. 😛

I’d wear this Everywhere!! Such a great look and I’m so glad you shared it. I’m glad to see that Pin-up tee has bust darts; I don’t remember seeing that on the website, so I’ll have to check them out again. Love the manicure color, too… I tend to stick to color families (red/black) with my outfits and add a pop of color (surprise, Green!) as well.

I really enjoy getting to see the things you make, but I like a good outfit post as well. I love seeing more casual vintage ensembles and what people wear for an everyday look, and this outfit looks very cute and comfy at the same time. I too am a bit fearful when it comes to knits. The few time I’ve sewn with knits I’ve had really great experiences and really bad ones, never anything in between. I hope you do more outfit posts in the future.

This is fabulous! I really don’t mind outfits that are made up of pieces you personally made. It’s really inspiring, as I often get frustrated when sewing. I LOVE it. I often post variation after variation on the same exact outfit, and I certainly wouldn’t mind seeing the different ways you accessorize your pieces (especially the louder novelty prints). I love your classic combination of black and red in this casual ensemble.
I know this is old, but can you describe the tweaks you made to your go-to set for short hair? I’ve used your set before on longer hair but now have a short bob with bangs like you had here. Thanks!
