Hello everyone!
Today’s guest post is brought to you by the gorgeous Frances, who blogs at Polka Polish. I love her vintage style, and am absolutely tickled that not only did she agree to do a guest post for me, she sewed a dress just for it. WOW. Read on below to see it, it’s fantastic!
I was incredibly flattered when Tasha asked me to do a guest post for her, and after a few moments of celebration I made a beeline for my closet to plan out a perfect outfit. Tasha makes the most amazing novelty print dresses, so I thought something along those lines would be quite fitting. And since I’ve been daydreaming of having a novelty print dress for ages, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to throw something together.
I’d had big plans for some kitchen themed novelty print I’d seen at Joann Fabrics, but there was none to be found while I was out shopping… I must have waited too long. So instead, after much deliberation, I picked up the last of a cheery black and white key print. I started out with a 60s sundress pattern (Simplicity 3400) but ended up Frankenstein-ing the bodice together with another 60s sundress (Simplicity 5495) because I think sleeveless things look funny on me. The dress could probably use a few small alterations, and a slightly higher hem, but I’m quite happy with it.
outfit details
Hat: An antiques shop somewhere…
Necklace: Grandma’s
Bakelite: Thrifted
Black belt: Grandma’s
Sundress: Made by moi
Black pumps: Thrifted
I guess my kitchen novelty print will have to wait until I can do a little online shopping… but if anyone sees a kitchen novelty print in teal, purple, and yellow on grey at their local Joann’s, they’ll let me know, right?
Thanks so much for sharing, Frances! I’m completely tickled that my love of novelty prints helped inspire this dress. It’s a good thing that Frances doesn’t live closer, or I’d totally be trying to steal it. (Wait, did I say that out loud?)
Be sure to stop by Polka Polish to check out more of Frances’s style and adventures!

Cuuuute! Gosh you gals make me wish I wasn’t too lazy to sew. Last time I sat down and actually sewed from scratch was 2 years ago…. when I had a broken foot…. so. Total fail. You always look so lovely, Frances <3
