Introducing the Golly Ranch House

April 2, 2012 by Tasha 50 Comments

It happened! Last Wednesday, we officially sold our condo and bought our first house. A ranch house from the 1950s, that I think I’m dubbing the Golly Ranch House.

Everything went smoothly with the closings, and we moved in that night. I just can’t believe it! Everything that’s been occupying so much of our time over the last three months finally came together. It’s kind of an incredible feeling. I’m both excited and exhausted, and getting used to living in a completely different part of the city than I’ve ever lived before.

Once we settle in a bit this will mean returning to regular blogging! Which I’m sure will include occasional posts about mid-century decorating in our 1955 house. Yay!

Isn’t it cute?!

Congratulations! I love the two chickens on the front step and am looking forward to the interior shots. And I’m a bit intrigued by those glass blocks in the wall…

Aren’t the chickens funny?? They are plastic planters, left by the previous owner. I think we’ll keep them as an homage, but move them to the backyard. 😉

Glass block was really popular in the 50s. Those two on the front actually just go into a bedroom closet. But there’s 2 small glass block windows in the living room, and more in the basement and the one in the bathroom.

So cute! Just curious, I love 1950s knotty pine kitchens and the metal (cabinet) kitchens…did your house come with its original 50s kitchen? Hope to see some pictures of the inside sometime soon. Have fun decorating!

Not knotty pine nor metal, but original cabinets yes– the previous owner said they were maple. Pretty nice condition too, complete with the scallop trim across the window. Unfortunately nothing else in the kitchen is original except the Blo-Fan vent in the ceiling, but the cabinets were a big selling point for me. 🙂

Nice! Are you on the northwest side or in the burbs (judging from the look of the house alone, I could see it in either of those areas)
