Friends, I finally sewed my very first pair of trousers! Now, I've been talking about wanting to sew trousers for over a year. They are definitely a staple in my vintage wardrobe. Last summer I bought the pattern for the 1930s Smooth Sailing trousers and blouse from Wearing History but just could never work myself up to sew them. As you know, this last weekend I went on a blogger adventure, and bought several lovely ... Read more »

Finished project: 1944 Apple picking dress
While my dad is in town, I lined up this post. My apologies if I'm a little scarce while he's here, I'm not going to be online much this week! Now, let's go apple picking! After all, I have the most perfectly applelicious dress for it. Can you tell I'm a little excited by my overzealous grin up there? (And yikes, what's with the 5 pounds of luggage under my eyes?) Finished project: No-more-sewing-slump dress

This pattern is a 1940s house dress, Simplicity 4660. You can see my copy is in really rough shape, but I couldn't resist it when I was searching for inspiration on Etsy a couple of weeks ago. No one really wears house dresses anymore, so who cares if I wear ... Read more »
Sewing and tucks

I went from not really having time to sew for over a month to trying to work on two projects this week and getting foiled along the way on both of them. This time, though, I'm not really foiled, just looking for opinions! I'm going to sew Simplicity 4608, a smart little blouse pattern from ... Read more »
Campus-inspired vintage fashions for fall
Autumn! Crunching leaves, cooler temperatures...oh I know, I know, it's still summer! But if I don't start thinking about fall/winter sewing and knitting now, I may not get to the projects I have in mind until it's starting to warm up again next year! August is when everyone involved in school life beings to gear up for the start of a new school year. While my own 10-year college reunion took place two years ago, ... Read more »
